If I'm going to do this properly, I might as well begin with an introduction.
My name is Chris, I'm 24 years-old, I live in Preston with my wife, Anna, and our cat, Sparky, and in the next eighteen months I plan to leave my full-time job behind and embark on a career as a full-time freelancer.
You might imagine that anyone wanting to do such a thing must hold some considerable amount of disdain for their nine-five.
Not me. I love my job. I work full-time as a writer, photographer and web-developer, and I enjoy almost every minute of it.
Thing is, as much as I enjoy it, I know there's something more out there for me.
I know that there must be an alternative to waking up at half six in a morning, spending an hour struggling to cope with the absurdity that is Britain's public transport system only to sit at a desk for eight hours a day before battling my way back on the same public transport system and arriving home too tired to do much other than sit in front of the telly box.
I know there is, because I've tasted it.
Every now and again, those kind people I work for will let me spend the day working from home, and whilst it just isn't feasible to do this every day in my current job, I get so much satisfaction from doing this that I need to find a way to be able to do it all the time
Then again, I know it's not going to be easy. Which is why I've given myself eighteen months. Exactly a year and a half from this day I want to be able to hand my notice in, and never look back.
As I work towards that fateful day, I'll be documenting every step here on this blog; offering thoughts, comments and advice to anyone in a similar position.
This is going to be the biggest challenge I've ever had to undertake, but it's one I'm very much looking forward to.
